Working closely as a key member of the Communications & Engagement team, this temporary, full-time position of 12-18 months duration  leads communications and public engagement initiatives and the planning, development, design, and production of a variety of visual tools, publications, advertisements, and signage.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for communications and public engagement initiatives
  • Review, write, edit and produce communications and public engagement materials
  • Build and maintain online public engagement project pages and tools using the Bang the Table platform
  • Design and book public hearing advertisements
  • Design development application signage
  • Design bulletins and information sheets
  • Review customer service processes, procedures, and forms

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications (or a related field) plus a minimum of three years of job-related experience
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines 
  • Attention to detail, fact-checking and proof-reading abilities 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Sound judgement and independent decision-making skills 
  • Knowledge of communications and public engagement principles, best practices, and related technology is an asset 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the City and with external contacts.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, plus strong MS Office skills (creating Word templates and PowerPoint presentations)
  • Working knowledge of professional printing techniques and standards
