The City of Port Moody is looking for enthusiastic, hard-working individuals to provide temporary, full-time, seasonal labour assistance to the Parks & Environment department.  These positions will perform basic maintenance work (including operating a variety of small equipment / trucks) and related duties, as well as emergency work, while following operational and safety procedures.

This is routine manual work entailing considerable physical effort and agility in the safe performance of a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled jobs such as turf and field maintenance, irrigation system maintenance, parks maintenance, landscape maintenance, the maintenance of playgrounds and spray parks, invasive plant removal, and the cleaning of public areas and facilities. 

The Labourer will drive and operate a variety of equipment while performing tasks such as grass cutting, weeding and litter collection.  This position also assists with emergency maintenance and repairs. Labourers may be assigned to tasks based on their experience and operational need.

Various start dates between March and June, with end dates between end of August and October, 2024.  Please note that employment with the City of Port Moody is subject to the receipt of a satisfactory police information check as well as a satisfactory driver's abstract.

Basic Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education plus a minimum of six months of job-related experience including experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Experience using various types of machinery on construction and landscape sites
    • Experience in the maintenance of parks, sports fields, irrigation systems, and playgrounds
    • Experience with traffic control, snow removal, flood control and other emergency response
    • Experience with landscaping, horticultural tasks
    • Experience with restoration projects in natural areas
    • Experience with / knowledge of identifying and removing invasive plants 
    • Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate a variety of small equipment safely and efficiently
  • Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License (not "N")
